Meghan Trainor – All About That Bass
All about Meghan
Meghan Trainor is an American singer-songwriter from Massachusetts. Born on December 22, 1993, Trainor co-wrote All About That Bass in 2014. The song went on to sell 11 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best selling singles of all time, reaching number one in 19 countries including the USA, UK, Canada, Australia and Germany. All About That Bass is a pop song, although there are elements of hip hop, country and even reggae within the song.
The song addresses body image issues, with “bass” being used as a reference to the fuller figure. It criticizes the misconception that all women should be stick thin and a size zero, celebrating curvy women and encouraging them to embrace their bodies. The release of the song coincides well with the era of the “big booty”, with women such as Nicki Minaj, Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian to name a few, all being famed for their curves.
In the eye of a bona fide fat admirer, Meghan’s own frame might be described as quite slender, however she as, as she says herself, no size two, and had previously doubted her own ability to achieve pop stardom for this reason. It has been said that she has acted as an inspiration to many ordinary and larger ladies.
